Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa cooperative is owned by its co-op members. They have the opportunity to influence the cooperative’s operations. There are many ways to influence: by voting in the elections to the Council of Representatives, by serving on the governing bodies themselves, or by giving direct feedback on the operation of the cooperative through various feedback channels.The Council of Representatives is the supreme decision-making body In cooperatives, decision-making is based on representative democracy. The highest decision-making power is exercised by the elected Council of Representatives. The right to vote in the Council of Representatives elections is an important aspect of co-op membership.The Supervisory Board approves the strategyPirkanmaan Osuuskauppa cooperative’s Supervisory Board consists of 24 members, two of whom are personnel representatives. The Supervisory Board’s duty is to monitor that the cooperative and its governance are managed in accordance with laws and regulations, as well as the decisions of the Council of Representatives and the Supervisory Board. It also confirms the cooperative’s strategy.The Executive Board directs business activitiesThe Executive Board of Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa cooperative consists of six members, five of whom are elected annually. The Executive Board’s task is to promote the interests and success of the cooperative by managing its affairs in accordance with the law and regulations, and to oversee the business. The Executive Board decides on the key objectives and strategies.The task of the management team is to put the strategy into practice. Each member of the management team is responsible for their own business area or area of expertise.

Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa cooperative’s Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board’s duty is to monitor that the cooperative and its governance are managed in accordance with laws and regulations, as well as the decisions of the Council of Representatives and the Supervisory Board. Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa cooperative’s Council of Representatives

The Council of Representatives exercises the highest decision-making power belonging to the owners of the regional cooperative in matters that fall within its authority in accordance with laws and by-laws. Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa cooperative’s Council of Representatives consists of 60 members who are elected from among the cooperative’s members every four years. In addition to its role as an administrative body, the Council of Representatives plays a significant role in creating extensive contacts between co-op members and the management of the cooperative.The Representative Council convenes twice a year in accordance with the bylaws. In the spring, its key duties include handling the financial statements and profit distribution, granting discharge from liability to the members of the Supervisory Board, the Board of Directors and the CEO, and electing the Nomination Committee. At the autumn meeting, the Representative Council’s main responsibilities are the election of the members of the Supervisory Board and the auditors. If necessary, the Representative Council may hold extraordinary meetings.Among the individual matters within the Representative Council’s decision‑making authority, the most important are amendments to the bylaws and any decisions related to discontinuing or merging the operations of the cooperative.
